The $4.5 billion fixed benefit plan of American Airlines, Fort Worth, Texas, committed $40 million to two private equity funds, said William F. Quinn, president, AMR Investments, which oversees the plan. The fund committed $20 million each to the Fremont Fund and Carlyle Fund II. He said funding will be from cash and will be drawn down as investments are made over four to five years.
