Thomas L. West Jr. took on the post of CEO at Variable Annuity Life Insurance. He also is president of VALIC. Mr. West succeeds Stephen D. Bicke l as CEO. Mr. Bickel, who also was VALIC's chairman, retired, but will remain a consultant to American General, VALIC's parent, for two years. American General has not appointed a new chairman
