WHO'S NEWS
Jeffrey L. Shames was named chairman and CEO at MFS Institutional Advisors, replacing A. Keith Brodkin, who died unexpectedly last week. Mr. Shames, who has been president of the firm, will continue to hold that post for now.
Also, John Ballen, MFS chief equities officer, has been appointed to the board of directors replacing Mr. Brodkin. Mr. Shames already sits on the board.
Larry Morgenthal and Robert Maurer joined Weiss Peck & Greer as account managers for, respectively, alternative investments and Taft-Hartley clients.
Both are new positions. Mr. Morgenthal left ABB Inc., Stamford, Conn., where he was manager-pension and thrift management. Mr. Maurer left Lazard Freres Asset Management, where he was a senior vice president and equity portfolio manager
