American Century Investments, Kansas City, Mo., and the Jackie Robinson Foundation have created the Buck O'Neil/JRF Scholarship.
The scholarship commemorates Mr. O'Neil, a former Kansas City Monarchs player and manager. He was a pioneer in the Negro Baseball League and has supported youth baseball programs for many years.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation has established a series of corporate-sponsored scholarships to help minority students with college expenses. The scholarship provides assistance of up to $5,000 per year for four years, as well as summer jobs and internship placement. More than 500 students have finished their degrees through the scholarship program.
