U.S. private equity returned 0.7% in the second quarter, based on preliminary information collected by PitchBook. Private equity funds returned 2.9% and 2.4% in the fourth quarter of 2023 and the first quarter this year, respectively. They produced double-digit returns for five consecutive quarters starting in the second quarter of 2020.
U.S. private equity returns slump in Q2
Defined benefit plan sponsors have slowed private equity manager hirings over the past several years, according to data provided to Pensions & Investments. Year to date, there have been 558 hires totaling $47.3 million. In 2019, the sponsors made 831 hires valued at $121.9 billion.
