U.S. IPOs rise in 2024

U.S. initial public offering activity increased last year. There were 139 transactions that raised $34.8 billion compared with 101 transactions and $16.3 billion in proceeds for 2023.

However, 2024’s volume was well below 2020 and 2021 levels when IPO activity totaled $156.3 billion and $287.4 billion, respectively.

IPO activity picked up in the last three quarters of 2024 compared with recent periods. There were 36 IPOs that raised $11.6 billion in the third quarter, and 43 deals with $8.7 billion in proceeds during the fourth quarter. In the first quarter, 25 deals raised $5.7 billion.
