The Russell 3000 Growth index had 64% of the underlying companies losing money as of Sept. 30. This figure rose throughout 2020, and it was above levels experienced in the early 2000s and 2009.
U.S. growth stocks have more money-losing companies
The Russell 3000 growth index returned nearly 26% last year, ending 2021 at a record high 2,439.84. However, the index has lost 5% thus far this year through Jan. 10.
