Shifts in large hedge fund ETF holdings

Among their 10 largest exchange-traded funds holdings, hedge funds significantly increased their share ownership of the SPDR S&P 500 and iShares Russell 2000 over the third quarter. They also boosted their ownership in three large emerging market ETFs: Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets, iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets and iShares MSCI Emerging Markets.

Hedge funds pared ownership in the Schwab US TIPS, iShares Core S&P 500 and Financial Select Sector SPDR funds.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF remains the largest holding among hedge funds, with $10.8 billion in investments. Schwab US TIPS, Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 and iShares Core S&P 500 follow, with hedge funds holding about $3 billion worth of shares in each ETF.
