Service industry DC plans grow faster than goods-producing sector

Defined contribution assets in the service sector grew to $5.7 trillion at the end of 2021, up from $2.2 trillion a decade earlier. During that span, DC assets in goods-producing industries increased to $2.8 trillion from $1.3 trillion.

The service sector accounted for nearly 84% of private non-farm employees at the end of 2021.

The service sector's DC assets rose at a 10% compounded annual growth rate over the decade that ended in 2021. By contrast, the goods-producing DC assets increased at an 8% CAGR.
