SEC lending still can't touch pre-crisis levels
Equity securities lending revenues stalled in 2019 after hitting its post-crisis high in 2018. From 2010 to 2018, revenues grew at a compound average growth rate of 4.8% to $8.3 billion. Last year, however, saw that number drop 2.3% to $8.1 billion.
Average loan balances were about $980 billion during the year, down from $1.02 trillion in 2018. Market uncertainty was pointed at to explain the drop in both revenues and balances, though both improved on the surge in markets in the second half of the year.
Loan balances were estimated at an average $1.3 trillion in 2008, while revenues were about $10.1 billion.
