There have been 17 private real estate fund closings totaling $40.6 billion this year, based on data collected by Pensions & Investments. That compares with last year's 26 funds that raised $70.7 billion, the highest figures since P&I began tracking closures in 2010.
Private real estate fund closings down
The largest portion of this year's closures were opportunistic funds, totaling $20.6 billion. This was followed by debt's $12.9 billion.
In 2021, opportunistic real estate funds also led the way with $41.7 billion.
