Private equity funds remain popular

Private equity funds raised the most money among alternatives funds, continuing a trend over the last decade, using data collected by Pensions & Investments. P&I tracks funds that have raised at least $1 billion. Last year, 56 funds closed, raising more than $252 billion. The dollar figure was about 50% of the amount closed among four strategies in 2021.

Private equity funds raised an aggregate of $119 billion compared with the $96.3 billion target, based on the 26 funds for which P&I obtained information on the fundraising goal. The median was 26% above the target, and it ranged from zero to 110%.
