Emerging markets hedge funds continue to see outflows. In the fourth quarter, outflows totaled $1 billion, the fifth straight period of outflows, according to HFR.
Outflows from emerging markets hedge funds continue
Emerging markets assets were $244.1 billion, or 6.4% of the hedge fund total. At the end of 2019, emerging markets were 7.5% of total hedge fund assets.
More than 64% of assets in emerging markets hedge funds pursue equity hedge strategies compared with the overall 28.1%. Macro and relative value were the next most popular, at 14.5% and 13.8%, respectively.
Emerging markets hedge funds lost 13.1% last year. After a strong start in January, the performance rebounded to 1.7% for the first two months of this year. However, it was down 2.5% in February.
