Year to date, investment-grade bonds, measured by the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond index, have returned -16.3% through Monday. They returned -1.3% in October, and the last positive monthly return was July's 2.4%.
Investment-grade bonds consistently post negative monthly returns in 2022
Since the start of the year, the spread has widened to 60 basis points from 36 basis points. It contracted from 65 basis points at the end of October, however.
Investment-grade bonds' yield to worst has jumped to 5.15% from 1.75% at the end of 2021. The YTW is the highest since 2008 when yields and spreads spiked during the recession.
