This year's hiring volume was $217.3 billion through Dec. 21, down from $256 billion in 2021, based on data collected by Pensions & Investments. Private equity again led the way with $95.3 billion (44% of the total), a 15% increase from last year. Real asset commitments were up by 34% to $26.2 billion.
Hiring activity falls this year
Buyouts mandates led the way among private equity with $53.9 billion, or 57% of the total. Over the previous four years, it ranged from 32% to 58% of private equity commitments.
Infrastructure remained the largest component of real asset hirings. These commitments were $17.1 billion, or 65% of the total.
