Large pension plans that broke out their private equity strategies in response to Pensions & Investments’ annual top 1,000 retirement plan sponsor survey mostly invested in buyouts. Nine out of the 10 pension plans with the largest reported private equity investments had more than half of the strategy’s investments in buyouts. Michigan State Retirement Systems had 44.3% in buyout strategies, the largest share of its private equity allocation.
The pension plans had various weights in other private equity strategies.
