Ms. Martin oversees the exchange, which lists 2,400 companies representing a market cap of roughly $33 trillion, four electronic equity exchanges and two options exchanges. She also serves as chair of fixed income and data services for the Intercontinental Exchange, NYSE's parent.
Her work on diversifying the corporate boards and organizations of NYSE-listed companies has been a core mission.
Specifically, the NYSE Board Advisory Council was formed in 2019 to act as a resource for companies looking to add diverse board candidates by leveraging a database the NYSE curates from recommendations by its listed-company CEOs.
"In the last 18 months, the number of candidates has more than doubled and nearly 40 candidates identified by the council have joined the boards of public companies," she said.
Ms. Martin said technology has become transformational for institutional investors.
"Technology is the great democratizer of our financial markets," she said. "The introduction of technology has resulted in real-time market information becoming available to a truly global audience. This has created an equal playing field on which all types of investors in locations around the world can interact with our markets. Thanks to these advances, we now have much more transparent and efficient markets."
