Maja Hazell will join hedge fund manager D.E. Shaw on Oct. 4 as managing director and the firm's first dedicated head of diversity, equity and inclusion, said a company spokesman in an email.
In the newly created position, Ms. Hazell will coordinate "the extensive DEI-related work already being done at the firm," the spokesman said.
Ms. Hazell, who will be based in New York, also will work on new projects and initiatives including recruiting, supporting and developing diverse talent, the spokesman said.
She will report to Edward L. Fishman, managing director executive committee member and chief operating officer.
D.E. Shaw managed $55 billion as of June 1.
