CQS, a London-based investment management firm, announced Thursday that a seven-member Asia macro hedge fund team, led by Geoffrey Barker, will join CQS in Hong Kong.
The team comes to CQS from the Hong Kong office of City Financial Investment Co., a London-based manager which entered insolvency proceedings on March 21 after encountering "financial difficulties," according to postings on the City Financial website.
CQS CEO Xavier Rolet, said in news release that Mr. Barker and his team — Nick Bibby, Neil Scrase, Vishal Mahtani, Chrisy Law, Amanda Chan and Ivan Kan — are joining CQS at a time when CQS clients are "increasingly asking us" for solutions offering exposure to Asia's fast-paced growth.
A CQS spokesman declined to comment when asked for details regarding the size of the new team's Asia macro fund at City Financial, where the strategy was called Counterpoint.
Mr. Barker couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
CQS had $17.4 billion in assets under management as of June 1.
