Yao Hua Ooi, a principal and co-head of the macro strategies group, has departed AQR Capital Management.
Ooi led the research and portfolio management teams focused on AQR’s macro, multistrategy and managed futures products, according to a biography that was formerly listed on the firm’s website. Ooi joined AQR in 2004 straight from college.
A spokesperson for AQR confirmed that Ooi has left to pursue a new opportunity.
Ooi told Pensions & Investments that he will be starting a role at another hedge fund next year.
Jordan Brooks, a principal at AQR, remains co-head of the macro strategies group. John J. Huss, a principal, has been named co-head of the macro strategies group along with Brooks, AQR’s spokesperson said.
AQR had approximately $109 billion in assets under management at the end of May. The firm was founded in 1998 and manages a variety of products including hedge funds, long-only and liquid alternatives.
