Justin P. Klein was named director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware, succeeding the founding director, Charles Elson, professor of finance, the university announced.
Mr. Klein will assume the role on Sept. 20. Mr. Elson stepped down from the director's role last year, and he was replaced on an interim basis by Laura Field, a professor of finance and finance department chairman of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware, according to a university news release Thursday
Ms. Field led the search committee for a permanent director.
Mr. Klein has been a member of the Weinberg Center's Advisory Board since 2015. He was a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP from 1992 through 2019 and most recently has served as senior counsel at the firm, the news release said.
"Justin is a well-regarded thought leader in corporate governance, and he is taking on an important role in leading one of the University of Delaware's most prominent centers," Lerner College Dean Bruce Weber said in the news release. "He is a respected corporate counselor and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, having advised publicly and privately held companies on diverse securities, corporate and governance matters."
