Orlando Bravo, a founder and managing partner of private equity firm Thoma Bravo, has donated $10 million to his family foundation to fund Hurricane Fiona relief efforts in his native Puerto Rico.
The firm Thoma Bravo had $122 billion in assets under management as of June 30.
Mr. Bravo, who was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, created the Bravo Family Foundation in 2017 in response to Hurricane Maria, making an initial $10 million donation. He later committed an additional $100 million to the foundation to promote entrepreneurship and economic development in Puerto Rico.
The foundation now focuses mainly on supporting underserved communities, individuals and groups who have limited access to high-quality education opportunities, technical training and financial support.
The Bravo Family Foundation is using its most recent $10 million donation to support more than 3,000 families across Puerto Rico, specifically targeting communities most affected by Hurricane Fiona, which hit the country on Sept. 18.
The foundation is delivering new kitchen appliances, beds and furniture, Mr. Bravo tweeted from Puerto Rico on Sept. 28. The foundation focuses on helping adults over 65 years of age, families with children and people with disabilities, starting with communities in which it already operates, including the municipalities of Mayaguez, Salinas, San German, Cayey, Loiza and Cabo Rojo.
"So proud of the foundation for working so hard to get people back into their homes — and so inspired by these communities and their continued optimism," Mr. Bravo said in the same tweet.
