Veteran money manager consultant Michael S. Falk is the 28th recipient of the Hortense Friedman Award for Excellence, a lifetime achievement award, by the CFA Society Chicago in recognition of his years of service to the investment community.
Mr. Falk, a chartered financial analyst, is a partner at Focus Consulting Group Inc., Long Grove, Ill., where he counsels investment firms on corporate culture, best work practices and business management. He also has served on the CFA's board of regents for six years and has been its chair for the past two years.
"To say that I am humbled by the CFA Society Chicago making me the recipient of this award would be a dramatic understatement," Mr. Falk said in an email.
The Chicago Society presented the award to Mr. Falk in August, based on his focus on investment education, CFA blog posts, podcasts, online videos, panel discussions, live speeches and articles for the national CFA Institute and many external publications, said Christopher T. Vincent, president and CEO of CFA Institute Chicago, in an interview.
"Michael has done a lot of education not only for the Chicago Society but also for many others, especially on the subject of cognitive and behavioral factors in investment management," Mr. Vincent said.
Mr. Falk also has written two investment books — "Let's All Learn How To Fish … To Sustain Long-Term Economic Growth" (2016) and "Get To Work … on Our Future" (2019) — both available on Amazon.
"Michael is a farsighted practitioner who is leading the way in bringing insights from behavioral science, especially neuroscience, into analysts' toolkits," said Hersh Shefrin, professor of finance, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, Calif., in a review of Mr. Falk's 2016 book.
