David Abner will join Northern Trust Asset Management as head of global ETFs and funds, NTAM, a global investment management firm, announced June 12.
It is a new position, a NTAM spokeswoman said. Abner will join the firm effective June 17, she said.
Abner will oversee NTAM’s mutual fund and ETF product strategy, research and development, product management, and capital markets, as well as fund services oversight and treasury functions, according to a news release.
As of March 31, NTAM had more than $230 billion in assets under management in U.S. mutual funds and global ETFs, the news release said.
“As we innovate and continue to build our suite of funds, David’s proven leadership and deep expertise will help drive NTAM’s continued growth in this key area of our business,” NTAM President Daniel Gamba said in the release.
Previously, Abner was global head of business development at cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, the spokeswoman confirmed. Prior to that, he spent more than a decade at WisdomTree Asset Management where he served in a variety of leadership roles, including CEO of WisdomTree Europe, the release said.
At NTAM, Abner will report to Paula Kar, global head of product, who described Abner as “a visionary leader in the ETF industry,” according to the release.
“As NTAM advances its mutual fund and ETF strategy, we are confident that David’s expertise in building new businesses will allow us to provide our clients with innovative and improved solutions to all of their investment needs,” Kar said in the release.
NTAM, the investment management business of Northern Trust Corp., had $1.2 trillion in total assets under management as of March 31, the release said.
