Nick Moss joined Nuveen as head of nature-based solutions within the firm's natural capital unit.
The role is new, a spokesperson for the $1.1 trillion money manager said. Moss is based in London and reports to Skye Macpherson, global head of asset management.
He is responsible for driving the natural capital unit's nature-based investment strategy, which invests across farmland, forestry and ecological restoration, and has a focus on reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of commercial production processes. The strategy also looks to protect existing and restoring damaged habitats.
"Nick has a wealth of experience within natural capital investments and strong relationships with business, financial institutions, donors, governments and development finance institutions," Macpherson said in a news release. "He will play a pivotal role in continuing to grow our natural capital and nature-based solutions offering, and providing the technical expertise to manage our holdings efficiently, sustainably and to the highest standards."
Nuveen's nature-based AUM was not immediately available.
Moss led the design and delivery of the AGRI3 strategy, a Rabobank and United Nations Environment Programme initiative that aimed to mobilize $1 billion in public and private investment in forest conservation and sustainable agriculture.
