DWS Group acquired a 3% stake in digital environmental, social and governance-scoring provider Arabesque S-Ray, a DWS spokeswoman said Thursday.
The addition of Arabesque S-Ray boosts DWS' monitoring and sustainability performance assessment capabilities. Through machine learning and big data approach, the information provider derives over 200 ESG metrics.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Our investment in and cooperation with Arabesque S-Ray is another step for DWS towards taking a leading position in the field of sustainable investment," DWS CEO Asoka Woehrmann said in the release.
"We are thrilled to welcome DWS as investor in Arabesque S-Ray, and look forward to working together to lead the market in the adoption of ESG data technology," Arabesque S-Ray CEO Andreas Feiner said in the news release.
DWS invested alongside Allianz X, the digital investment unit of Allianz Group and real estate manager Commerz Real. The investors jointly invested $20 million, according to a joint release.
DWS also said Thursday the firm was in exclusive talks with Arabesque about acquiring a minority stake in Arabesque's artificial intelligence engine.
