Letitia Johnson was named chief investment officer for Amherst College, confirmed Sandy Genelius, spokeswoman for the Amherst, Mass., school, in an email.
Effective Sept. 9, she replaces Mauricia Geissler, who will retire. Ms. Geissler has been in the CIO position since 2003.
Ms. Johnson will oversee management of the college's $2.9 billion long-term investment pool, including its $2.4 billion endowment. She will report to Kevin Weinman, chief financial and administrative officer.
Ms. Johnson was managing director at Cambridge Associates within its endowment and foundation team. Her responsibilities are being handled by other members of the team, a Cambridge spokeswoman confirmed.
