Yale University's endowment reported a net 1.8% return for its fiscal year ended June 30.
The endowment size fell to $40.7 billion from $41.4 billion the year before, as investment gains totaled $759 million and gifts totaled $292 million, which was more than offset by $1.8 billion in spending distributions, according to a news release.
Yale's latest year return fell below the median 3.9% for the 14 endowments Pensions & Investments has covered as of Oct. 10.
Over the 10 and 20 years ended June 30, Yale returned an annualized 10.9% for both periods. Those returns exceeded the median return for college and university endowments by 3 percentage points, according to the release.
Yale's endowment returned 0.8% for the prior fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, the seventh highest return P&I reported of its universe of 50 endowments with at least $1 billion in assets.
Yale did not provide any data on asset allocation or asset class returns.
