The University of California Board of Regents reported that the weighted average return for its endowment funds was 4% for the fiscal year 2020 ended June 30.
The endowments three-year return was 6.7%, the five-year was 6% and the 10-year was 8.3%. The weighted average return for the prior fiscal year ended June 30, 2019 was 6.8%.
The highest performing asset class for the 12 months ended June 30 was global equities at 20.3%, and the worst performing was private credit with a 1% weighted average return.
Total endowment assets were $22.1 billion, including $9.6 billion in total endowments of the 10 California universities.
The individual endowments of University of California, San Francisco and University of California, Riverside recorded the highest net returns in the one-year ended June 30, both with 5.3%.
