Lisa Howie was named chief investment officer at Smith College, a spokeswoman for the Northampton, Mass.-based institution confirmed in an email.
The position is new.
Effective June 28, Ms. Howie will oversee the college's $2 billion endowment. She will report to Smith College President Kathleen McCartney and the board of trustee's investment committee.
Ms. Howie is a director at Yale University's investments office, which manages the New Haven, Conn.-based university's $31.2 billion endowment. A Yale spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for additional information.
Smith College announced in December that it had decided to manage its investments in-house after using outsourced CIO Investure LLC since 2004. Executive recruiting firm David Barrett Partners assisted in the search.
