Notre Dame endowment posts 7.2% return for fiscal year

University of Notre Dame returned 7.2% on its endowment fund investments for the fiscal year ended June 30, said a news release issued by the South Bend, Ind.-based school.

The return helped increase the endowment's assets to $13.8 billion as of June 30, up 5.3% from 12 months earlier.

The endowment's investments returned 12.2% the previous fiscal year. The university did not provide benchmark returns for the most recent fiscal year or the previous year.

For the 20 years ended June 30, the endowment returned an annualized 10% compared with the 5.5% return of a benchmark 60% equity/40% fixed-income portfolio, according to the news release. During that time span, the endowment's investment portfolio generated a total of $8.3 billion above the benchmark.
