Andrew Brown, secretary and CEO of the £8 billion ($9.7 billion) Church Commissioners for England, London, will retire effective Jan. 31, confirmed a spokeswoman for the endowment.
"Under (Mr. Brown's) stewardship, the Church Commissioners have laid firm foundations on which much of the activity that is helping the church to flourish is now being built. He will be greatly missed by commissioners and staff alike," said Loretta Minghella, first church estates commissioner, in a news release.
Mr. Brown's successor will be named in due course, according to the news release.
