Pension Investment Actuary - Team Lead
Position Description
Responsible for managing a pension risk strategy team. Acts as a technical/industry expert in supporting the OCIO practice and helping to manage complex investment client relationships. Anticipates and identifies opportunities for expanding business relationships. Acts as key consultant to senior client contacts assisting in policy or process redesign. His/Her primary responsibilities are to help clients and prospects understand the risks in their pension plan and to design investment solutions to help mitigate those risks.
•Manages a pension risk and actuary group. Conducts the performance management process, provides input for hiring and disciplinary actions.
•Acts as a technical/industry expert in managing the delivery of pension risk services, analyzing client needs, recommending improvements, and assessing the impact of any newly recommended or additional financial services.
•Acts as key consultant to senior contacts in the Outsourced CIO function to assist in formulation of investment recommendations, redesign of strategy, and creative problem solving.
•Facilitates planning sessions to develop new solutions for client needs. Anticipates or creates opportunities for enhancing client relationships through new products or services or increased consulting activities.
•Supports the Client Investment Officer in managing complex institutional investment client relationships with respect to their pension risk management strategies.
•Ensures overall client satisfaction by facilitating efforts of service team, coordinating resources to ensure timely delivery and issue-resolution, and effectively communicating client concerns/needs to partners.
•Educates client on emerging risk issues, regulatory and tax changes, and the general financial environment. Translates the impact on client activities and how it relates to investment services.
•Coordinates presentations, brings in experts when appropriate, ensures smooth delivery of new services, and communicates emerging needs.
•Recommends new services and products with an awareness of organizational implication of these decisions.
•Produces intellectual capital thought pieces and helps to distribute and promote the ideas internally.
Position Requirements
•7+ years of experience in a pension risk strategy capacity in a financial environment
◦Including pension actuary credentials and experience in producing and delivering asset-liability studies and recurring reporting to plan sponsors
•Knowledge of pension liability analysis and investment management is required to respond to client’s needs
•Skills in negotiation, delegation are necessary to service the client relationship
•Leadership and organizational skills are required to assess and develop the skills of the staff
