About the Team
The public equities division has consistently managed $15-20 billion in AUM for SWIB. The division currently has two portfolios consisting of a small-cap and a large-cap portfolio. All portfolios are driven by stock selection processes that are grounded in a fundamental assessment of the underlying business model risks and opportunities overlaid with an appropriate valuation framework. Investment professionals interact with outside analysts and experts, meet with management teams, attend conferences, and sometimes do site visits as part of our analytical process. Our portfolio construction process blends these insights with risk and alpha factor sensitivities to create portfolios that produce alpha in a consistent risk efficient manner over time.

Position Overview
Our newly established head of public equities position will be expected to manage a portfolio, provide oversight of our other equity portfolio teams and look for new opportunities to expand the division’s value added over time. The role will report directly to our internal public market chief investment officer. The ideal candidate will have a track record of equity investment success, strong communication and leadership skills, and the ability to evaluate investment processes within a collaborative and supportive culture.
Essential activities:
• Overseeing SWIB’s equity teams – this includes working with their lead portfolio managers to ensure the ongoing quality of their processes and staffing, the clarity of their communications, and the quality of their research and portfolio management.
• Actively managing a large-cap global equity portfolio for SWIB that outperforms its benchmark over time. This includes articulating the product’s investment process, ensuring proper staffing, and overseeing the ongoing work to ensure high-quality idea generation and overall portfolio positioning.
• Fostering team collaboration including market opportunities/risks and best practices.
• Working with outside research providers and peer organizations to bring innovation and best practices into SWIB’s equity investing efforts.
• Sharing views of current market conditions and the investment environment to help inform other internal SWIB investors and improve overall alpha generation across the agency.
• Nurturing and extending the firm’s culture both informally and formally through their interactions with other staff members.
The ideal candidate:
• 15+ years of experience in management of portfolios focused on equity strategies.
• Leadership experience in overseeing other investment staff.
• Proven track record of investment performance and ability to articulate and consistently execute a comprehensive stock selection and portfolio construction process.
• Skillset should include fundamental business model and financial statement analysis, familiarity with a variety of valuation methodologies, and an understanding of factor-based risk models.
• Able to establish priorities, use independent judgment and make reasoned investment decisions.
• Great teamwork, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills across the team and SWIB.
• Well-developed problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Energetic and forward-thinking with high ethical standards and a truly professional approach.
• Postgraduate qualification and professional designations (CFA, CPA, MBA) preferred.
• Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, and able to work unsupervised.
• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Experience in a performance-driven culture.
