Chief Investment Officer
The Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief Investment Officer (CIO). IPERS serves over 375,000 active, inactive and retired members covering most public employers within the state of Iowa. The CIO provides executive leadership and serves as the senior IPERS investment executive and a member of the IPERS executive management team. This position is responsible for the administration and management of the $42 billion IPERS investment portfolio and overall investment program. Responsibilities include establishment and maintenance of sound investment policy as approved by the IPERS Investment Board. The CIO supervises and leads an internal staff of skilled professionals who oversee internal and external money management.
Salary and Benefits:
The current annual salary range is $222,892.80 - $317,241.60 which is based on a paygrade of 57 on the non-contract pay plan. IPERS seeks to hire within this salary range but is willing to negotiate a salary and compensation package based on the experience and education of the candidate. A generous benefit package is also provided as state of Iowa employee.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance or a closely related field, and experience equal to 10 years of full-time work directing investments or investment policy for a retirement system or corporate pension fund, endowment, foundation or investment organization with assets in excess of five billion dollars.
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance or a close related field, and experience equal to eight years of full-time work directing investments or investment policy for a retirement system or corporate pension fund, endowment, foundation or investment organization with assets in excess of five billion dollars.
Candidates with an MBA, MPA, or CFA certification and experience working with Boards are preferred. Public sector multi-employer pension system experience is desirable.
