Travelers, both flyers and road warriors, will pay less this year to make it to their Memorial Day destinations compared with last year. The national average price per gallon of gasoline fell about 3% between the Friday of 2018's holiday weekend and Thursday's close to $3.13. Holiday travelers saw a 23.8% year-over-year jump Memorial Day weekend 2018.
Airfares, as measured by its component index in the broader Urban Consumer Price index, were also lower year-over-year, dropping about 1.8% between April 2018 and April 2019.
