Stewart Bennett was named global head of alternatives at BMO Global Asset Management, a spokesman said.
The position is new. Mr. Bennett will develop and execute BMO Global Asset Management's alternative investments global growth strategy. Effective May 7, Mr. Stewart will be based in London and report to CEO Kristi Mitchem.
"In (Mr. Bennett), we have a highly experienced financial services professional who has been given a mandate to develop and execute an evolved and expanded strategy, through an understanding of our clients' alternative investment needs and by building and providing world-leading capabilities," Ms. Mitchem said in a news release.
Mr. Bennett was a partner and head of the financial institutions group at independent investment banking firm Ondra Partners.
BMO Global Asset Management had C$807 billion ($610 billion) as of Jan.31.
