Gordon Hartogensis was approved Tuesday by an executive session of the Senate Finance Committee to serve as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. by a 26-2 vote.
Two Democrats on the committee, Sens. Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, opposed the confirmation.
Mr. Hartogensis was appointed by President Donald Trump in 2017 and approved by the Senate Finance Committee but was not confirmed before Congress adjourned. His nomination now proceeds to the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
The committee also advanced the nomination of Andrew Saul to be commissioner of the Social Security Administration.
