Alex Sun joined State Street Global Advisors in Shanghai as managing director and head of China.
The position is new. Mr. Sun will also serve as the head of the wholly foreign-owned investment management enterprise SSGA established in December. His appointment is "the first step for us" to build an investment and operations team on the mainland, an SSGA spokeswoman said in an email.
Mr. Sun will report to June Wong, SSGA's Hong Kong-based head of Asia ex-Japan.
Mr. Sun had been assistant general manager with HSBC Jintrust, HSBC Global Asset Management's joint venture on the mainland, according to an SSGA news release. An HSBC Jintrust spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
