United Continental Holdings Inc., Chicago, expects to contribute at least $318 million to its pension plans in 2019, the airline announced in its 10-K filing with the SEC on Thursday.
The company contributed $413 million and $419 million in 2018 and 2017, respectively.
As of Dec. 31, pension plan assets totaled $3.83 billion, while projected benefit obligations totaled $5.4 billion, for a funding ratio of 70.9%, up from 67.2% a year earlier.
The discount rate used to measure benefit obligations was 4.2% in 2018, up from 3.65% the previous year.
As of Dec. 31, the pension plans' actual allocation was 37.4% fixed income, 36.4% equities, 15.6% alternatives and 10.6% other.
