Dan Doonan was named executive director of the National Institute on Retirement Security, said Kelly Kenneally, spokeswoman for the retirement research organization, on Thursday.
Mr. Doonan will start March 11.
The outgoing executive director, Diane Oakley, is "starting the next phase of life that should be available to all working Americans — a secure retirement," NIRS said in the announcement.
Mr. Doonan was a senior pension specialist with the National Education Association, which represents 3 million public education professionals. He has also worked at the Department of Labor and with Buck Consultants' retirement practice.
NIRS members include financial services firms, employee benefit plans, trade associations and other retirement service providers.
