Peter Gunning was named global chief investment officer at Russell Investments, spokesman Travis Fishstein confirmed.
It is the second stint in the global CIO role for Mr. Gunning, who originally left the position in August 2013 to become CEO of the Asia-Pacific region for Russell.
His successor, Jeff Hussey, left Russell in October, and Mr. Gunning took over the role on an interim basis.
Mr. Gunning also will continue in his role overseeing the Asia-Pacific region and reports to Michelle Seitz, chairwoman and CEO.
Russell Investments has about $287 billion in assets under management.
