Dylan Foo was named global head of direct investments at AMP Capital, a role that oversees a new global function for the money manager, a spokeswoman said.
The position is new and relates to the creation of a dedicated global direct investment team for the £106.8 billion ($137.4 billion) money management firm.
The new team oversees direct investments made alongside AMP Capital's infrastructure equity strategies, including consortium management, negotiation and pricing, deal syndication, co-investment and separate accounts. It reflects a growing preference by institutional investors to gain access to infrastructure through direct equity investments, a news release said.
Mr. Foo will also continue in his role as partner and head of infrastructure equity, Americas. He oversees origination, execution and asset management of infrastructure investments in the region.
AMP Capital also named Patsy Sandys as head of the direct investments desk in Europe, reporting to Mr. Foo. She is an associate director on the infrastructure equity team in London. The spokeswoman said the firm has not hired a replacement for Ms. Sandys.
"Having established ourselves as a global midmarket sector specialist, supported by a number of landmark deals across multiple geographies, we understand how important it is for our large clients to increase their access to these opportunities, and their desire to partner with us is testament to the confidence in our investment strategy, our team and our track record," said Boe Pahari, global head of infrastructure equity at AMP Capital, in the news release.
The spokeswoman added that the firm already has a number of direct investors across three acquisitions in the U.S. and Europe in 2018.
