Michael Yang joined OMERS Ventures as a managing partner, heading up its new Silicon Valley office, said spokeswoman Nicole Kelly in an email.
This is a new position, Ms. Kelly said. The new office is the first outside Canada for OMERS Ventures, the venture capital arm of the C$95 billion ($71 billion) Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System, Toronto.
But OMERS "has team members in major cities across North America, the U.K., Europe, Asia and Australia — originating and managing a diversified portfolio of investments in public markets, private equity, infrastructure and real estate," she added.
Mr. Yang had been a partner at Comcast Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Comcast/NBCUniversal, according to an OMERS blog post.
Also, Michelle Killoran, principal at OMERS Ventures, will be relocating to Silicon Valley from Toronto to help establish the new office.
OMERS officials plan to announce more information about the global expansion of OMERS Ventures later in 2019, she added.
OMERS Ventures manages C$800 million in assets.
