Nicholas J. Gartside was named chief investment officer at reinsurance company Munich Re, a spokeswoman said.
The role is new and Mr. Gartside will be based in Munich. Mr. Gartside will be responsible for asset management at Munich Re, effective March 18.
"We are convinced we can further optimize the risk/return profile of our investment portfolio," said Joachim Wenning, chairman of the board of management of Munich Re, in a news release.
Mr. Gartside will join from J.P. Morgan Asset Management where he is international chief investment officer for the global fixed income, currency and commodities group. Iain Stealey, portfolio manager, will take over Mr. Gartside's role at the money manager.
