El Paso (Texas) Firemen and Policemen's Pension Fund hired Meketa Investment Group as its investment consultant through the end of 2019, according to minutes of the fund's September board meeting.
Meketa replaced Summit Strategies, which had served as the fund's consultant for 16 years and was sold to Mercer and AndCo Consulting this fall.
Mercer purchased all of Summit's businesses except for public defined benefit plan consulting, which went to AndCo.
The board hired Meketa as an interim consultant to give it more time to go through the request for proposal process to hire a permanent one. The request for proposal is likely to go out in February 2019, according to Tyler Grossman, executive director of the pension fund.
Meketa has been the fund's private equity consultant for the last 10 years. Its new contract as investment consultant began on Sept. 19.
The pension fund had $1.5 billion in assets as of Sept. 30, according to the fund's latest investment report.
