When the Milwaukee Brewers fought to break the 2-2 tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of Major League Baseball's National League Championship Series on Oct. 17, the team's principal owner, Mark L. Attanasio, wasn't there.
Los Angeles-based Mr. Attanasio was at the annual investor day as part of his day job as co-founder and managing partner of private credit firm Crescent Capital Group LP.
Mr. Attanasio kicked off the day-and-a-half Crescent Capital investor event in Santa Monica with a speech at 1 p.m., while the first pitch of Game 5 shot forth at Dodger Stadium at 2 p.m. The Dodgers won that game 3-2 and went on to win the NLCS in seven games to advance to the World Series.
This was not the first time Mr. Attanasio has missed a Brewers' NLCS game in the 14 years since he led a consortium, which includes Antony P. Ressler, co-founder and executive chairman of private credit firm Ares Management LP, to buy the franchise.
Mr. Attanasio missed Game 3 of the 2011 National League Championship Series when the Brewers played the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals won that game 4-3, giving them a 2-1 series lead.
But the 2011 investor conference ended in time for Mr. Attanasio to fly to St. Louis to watch the Brewers win Game 4 of the NLCS, Crescent spokesman Bill Mendel said.
That year, the St. Louis Cardinals won the National League Pennant and then the World Series against the Texas Rangers.
