George Hopkins, executive director of the $17.3 billion Arkansas Teacher Retirement System, Little Rock, plans to retire at the end of the year.
"After 10 years as ATRS executive director, I decided now is a good time to leave to allow new leadership while ATRS is in calm waters," Mr. Hopkins wrote in an announcement on the retirement system's website. "I have been eligible to retire for over six years but never felt the timing worked until now."
The board does not plan to use an executive search firm to seek a replacement, Mr. Hopkins said in an email. The board hopes to have the position filled within three months, he added.
