Tanguy van de Werve was named director general at the European Fund and Asset Management Association, a spokeswoman said.
Mr. van de Werve will replace Peter De Proft, whose tenure is to end Jan. 1. Mr. De Proft could not be immediately reached to comment about his plans.
Mr. van de Werve will focus on the association's strategic agenda as a central spokesman and representative for the European money management industry with international policymakers, regulators and other key industry stakeholders.
"Following an in-depth and thorough selection process, we are confident we have found the right person to lead the association through what will be a vital next phase for the industry in Europe. (Mr. van de Werve) has an excellent track record in leading complex industry associations, raising the profile of the industries he has represented, and most importantly, in achieving tangible and quantifiable results with EU policymakers for those industries. He has also been at the heart of the evolution of the European financial services industry in recent years," said William Nott, president of EFAMA, in a news release.
Mr. van de Werve will join EFAMA from the Association for Financial Markets in Europe, where he has worked as managing director, advocacy, since 2015. A spokeswoman could not be reached by press time to comment about a replacement.
