Vikram Nirula joined Carlyle Group in Mumbai on Monday as a managing director on the Carlyle Asia private equity team to advise on the firm's investments in India.
The position is new, a spokesman for the firm said.
Mr. Nirula previously served as a partner at True North Managers, a Mumbai-based private equity he firm he helped found 18 years ago. A spokesman for True North couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
A Carlyle news release said Carlyle has invested roughly $1.9 billion of equity in India, with the pace of investment picking up in recent years.
